Today I finished visiting all of the Southern California physical therapy schools and introduced them to Therapy Exam Prep (TEP) as an online NPTE exam prep course for PT and PTA candidates to have as a resource when preparing for the PT boards.
Mount St. Mary’s
I started the morning by visiting Mount St. Mary’s at the Doheny campus which is near USC’s main campus. I had to park outside of the gate near James Street and be checked in by the guard. When I walked around the nice campus, I felt tranquil and surprised that the trees can block out the city noises.
As I was walking to the building five where the PT Department is located, I passed by a former USC faculty adjunct. Actually, there are quite a few former USC colleagues from my class teaching here. I didn’t get to talk to Derrick Sueki as I walked by as he was talking with someone and so I just waved to him.
When I got to the PT Department, I had to wait for Debbie Lowe, Director and Chair and Associate Professor for the program. I had a nice discussion about Therapy Exam Prep and NPTE exam prep in general with her.
CSU Long Beach
This was the second visit for me at CSU Long Beach as the first visit was after 5 pm on Tuesday. Since I arrive around lunchtime and I didn’t know my way around the campus, I ended up taking the long route to get to the PT Department. When I finally found the building, no one was in the PT office, faculty offices or classrooms. apparently, there was a lecture until 1 pm.
I talked with a couple second-year PT students that were also waiting around for the PT Department office to open. After an hour of waiting, I handed Therapy Exam Prep’s marketing material to one of the students and left. I knew I had to get to the next school.
University of St. Augustine – San Diego
After leaving Long Beach, my phone didn’t have a lot of battery power left as I was using it for GPS navigation, I turned it off when I got onto I-5. I got to nearly UC San Diego and turned on GPS only to see that I overshot by 30 minutes! It took me a while to backtrack as traffic was building up.
When I finally arrived at University of St. Augustine in San Marcos, the person I would have talked to had left 15 minutes before me getting there! This satellite campus was nice and small. The receptionist told me most people leave by 3 or 3:30 pm. I thought I would be fine arriving prior to 5…I guess not. I handed Therapy Exam Prep’s flyers and bookmarks and filled out an information card for Heather Portillo to get back to me.
I left about 5 minutes after arriving to drive back up to Hollywood which took me about three and half hours while going through LA traffic. Once I got in at 7 pm I was pretty tired of driving around but I completed visiting all of PT schools in Southern California. An accomplishment indeed and the start of sharing about Therapy Exam Prep to candidates wanting to pass the PT licensure exam!
