I have returned to where I grew up in the Bay Area. Yesterday, my schools visits included going into San Francisco and Oakland.
UC San Francisco
I left to go to UC San Francisco Mission Bay area after the rush hour commute but still got stuck in traffic on the Bay Bridge. There was construction going on around the hospitals and campus itself on this brisk and cloudy day. The walkways on campus provided a serene environment where you could almost forget the construction and freeway noises. The buildings on th campus seem relatively new, nice and updated as I had to entered through metal detector gates before entering the elevator.
I got a chance to take a look at the UC SF Faculty Practice’s gym briefly. The gym was nice and spacious with a great view of the city. The PT department was on the fourth floor with the faculty practice. I provided flyers, bookmarks and other information to the assistant as Lily Wong was on vacation.
CSU San Francisco
After leaving UC SF, I headed to CSU San Francisco (aka SF State). I had no problem getting to the school but I had problems parking at the school. None of the parking meters would take the money or credit cards and had to go to 3 different places to try parking. When I finally was able to park in the garage there was construction going on.
I put some flyers near the Student Services and went into the Student Union. This central location was quite compact and filled with students as the finals week is coming up. I thought it was quite strange to see urinals in the Women’s restroom and had thought I went into the wrong one when I saw them but there were plenty of females in the restroom.
The PT Department is located in the Gymnasium and currently was relocating into another part of the gym area. I was able to talked to the Department chair who mentioned she would put flyers in the classroom. I provided the bookmarks and then put flyers around the gym as I was leaving.
Samuel Merritt University
Once done in San Francisco, I headed across the Bay to Samuel Merritt University in Oakland. The school is located near different hospitals and had valet parking right in front. I went up to the third floor and found out that I had to have ID to pass through to open up the door to the floor. Luckily, there was a faculty professor going up the stairs and opened up the door for me. to the PT Department and talked with Terry Nordstrom, the Chair and Associate Professor at the school. I handed him flyers and bookmarks for the students. This week was finals for the PT students and there were quite a few of them in the assistant’s office discussing about the them.
There are two more schools for me to visit in Northern California and that would complete. Look for the end of the California travels later this week.
